Founded in Birkenhead in 1824 as Laird, Son & Co. Merged with Johnson Cammell & Co. in 1903 to form Cammell, Laird & Co. Nationalised as part of British Shipbuilders in 1977. Privatised as part of Vickers Shibuilding & Engineering in 1986, but closed through lack of orders in 1993. Site subsequently acquired and reopened for ship repairing and limited shipbuilding work, trading as Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders since 2008
