Founded in Port Glasgow as Ferguson Brothers in 1903. Nationalised as part of the state owned British Shipbuilders in 1977. Merged with Ailsa Shipbuilding Company in 1980 to form Ferguson-Ailsa. The companies were separated in 1986 and Ferguson merged with Appledore Shipbuilders in Devon to form Appledore Ferguson. Demerged from Appledore and finally privatised in 1989 as Ferguson Shipbuilders.
