Vickers
Founded in Barrow-in-Furness in 1871 as Barrow Shipbuilding Co. Became Vickers in 1897 and merged with Armstrong-Whitworth to become Vickers-Armstrong Shipbuilders in 1927. Changed again to Vickers Shipbuilding in 1955 and nationalised as part of British Shipbuilders in 1977. Privatised as Vickers Shibuilding & Engineering in 1986, later becoming part of GEC-Marconi and renamed Marconi Marine briefly in 1999 and then BAE Systems Submarine Solutions in 2000.
