Founded in North Shields in 1851. Opened a second yard at South Bank, Middlesbrough in 1907 and from 1909 the North Shields yard concentrated on repair work. Merged with Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson in 1966 to form Associated Shipbuilders, later the Swan Hunter Group. The yard closed in 1987.
