Merged with other upper Clyde yards in 1968 to form Upper Clyde Shipbuilders which collapsed in 1971. Following a strike and work-in, the yard was re-formed as Govan Shipbuilders in 1972. In common with other British yard, nationalised as part of British Shipbuilders in 1977. Subsequently re-privatised in 1988 and sold to the Kværner group as Kværner Govan. Acquired by BAE Systems in 1999 and now part of BAE Systems Surface Ships.
